The ABC Selfie Challenge Is A Must Try!

ABC Selfie Challenge

I recently challenged myself to go 24 hours without posting a selfie, any type of picture, or even going on social media. As crazy as it may sound, it was one of the hardest things I’ve done in a long time. I tried to think back to what my world was like before Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and even Myspace and it had nothing to do with my phone. At that time before social media became popular, I really wasn’t on my phone as much as I am now. My phone wasn’t my life.

I started the challenge on September 16th which just happened to be the same day as my hair appointment. This wasn’t just any other hair appointment either. I was changing my hair color to black because I like to go darker in the fall. On top of that I added longer extensions and changed the part in my hair. Now, any other hair appointment, especially one with this many changes, I would be posting multiple selfies of myself from pretty much every angle possible. I love to hear you guys’ opinions on my new looks. Well, since I knew I wasn’t going to be able to post, I didn’t even bother taking any pictures. I just couldn’t, the temptation would have been way too much. On the other hand, my hair stylist was posting up pictures of me and I kept getting the notifications, so it got to a point where I had to turn my notifications off.

Courtney OMG SELFIE OK

Instead of posting selfies all day and scrolling through every social media page that I have, I decided to do something else for myself. I planned a day of relaxation. After going to get my hair done, I went shopping, got a massage, met my friend for lunch, blogged when I got home, made my boyfriend dinner and caught up on some shows that I missed. Throughout the day I realized that my social media and selfie addiction is fun, but it needs to be balanced. It’s ok to post selfies and have a presence on social media, but I need to make sure that I still have a personal life. Also, remember that followers on social media aren’t actually your friends. Just like in the new show Selfie which premieres on September 30th on ABC at 8/7c. On Selfie this girl Eliza has tons of presence on social media and literally let’s it control her entire life. She gets to a point where she realizes she needs to change once she sees that she doesn’t have any real friends and she’s way too self absorbed. I honestly think everyone needs to watch this show on a weekly basis. Not only is it hilarious, but you’ll notice that you too have a little Eliza in you and want to change just like her.
