The circle of life is coming back together once more in the new Lion King Live-Action Film! Fans went crazy when Disney announced the casting lineup for the live-action production that is set to premiere in the summer of 2019. I must admit, I was definitely one of those crazed fans filled with excitement about a revamped Lion King but once I saw the casting lineup, I was blown out of the water! Could this really be true?
According to Us Weekly, “Emmy winner Donald Glover will star in the leading role of Simba, while Queen Bee, Beyonce, will portray his best friend turned love interest, Nala.” In addition to these phenomenal leading roles, here is a list of the rest of the incredible cast:
John Oliver (Zazu), Billy Eichner (Timon), Seth Rogen (Pumbaa), James Earl Jones (Mufasa), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Scar), Alfre Woodard (Sarabi), John Kani (Rafiki), Eric Andre (Azizi), Florence Kashumba (Shenzi), Keegan-Michael Key (Kamari), JD McCray (Young Simba), and Shahadi Wright Joseph (Young Nala).
Do I smell a summer 2019 family hit in the making?? With this lineup, there’s no telling what’s gonna happen. I just can’t wait to hear Queen Bee’s beautiful voice sing The Circle of Life and see Donald Glover take the stage because anything he is apart of is one worth watching. The little girl in me is fulfilled to relive the glory days of The Lion King and the woman in me is even more excited to sing along to my favorite childhood song with my favorite girl Beyonce.
